Picnic, Pool

We had one last hurrah with the cousins before summer is over.  I found some bikes at the DI and got them all fixed up.  It was a lot of fun for the girls since they don't have bikes.

Sophie can't figure out how to steer a bike.  I don't know how else to help her and so she just prefers to ride the scooter.

We also went to the park for a picnic and to play at the playground.  It was a big hit of course.

And the fun wouldn't be complete without a trip to the pool!

Sad Girl

Today was the day when our foster dog had to go back to her adoption event.  I didn't realize how sad Sophie would be!  Poor girl.  Maybe one day we'll get a dog for our family.

POOL

In hindsight we should have gotten a season pass for the pool because we have been there lots.  We love it there.

Sophie was just as brave and loved jumping in and swimming around.  She also went in the lazy river.  I was nervous because it was crowded and she couldn't get out on her own.  I stayed close-by and when she wanted to get out I would just yank her up.  We stayed there for about 4 hours.  It was long but she loves it so much!

Despicable Me 2

We went to lunch and saw Despicable Me 2 today.  Sophie loves movies and especially loves popcorn too.  We ate at the Pizza Factory first which is one of our favorites!

Foster Dog

We had a foster dog for a week.  It was kind of a spur of the moment thing.  She was a really sweet dog but had way too much energy for our family!  Sophie loved her though!  It was rewarding even though it was just a short-term solution for her.  I love supporting rescue groups and am such an animal lover.

Sophie is so silly and she loves sitting in the tree.  She likes to "climb" the tree and feels pretty accomplished when she sits up there.  I love her, she is so cute!

Midnight Run

I like to sign up for a 10K or two each summer.  It usually motivates me to run/workout because I have something to look forward too.  That didn't work for me this summer as I was running heavily at the beginning but have only run twice in the last 2 months!

My sister, her BFF, and my cousin's daughter and I all signed up for the Legacy Midnight Run.  My sister and I did one in Ogden last year.  The idea of it is really fun but last year the course was measured incorrectly and it was MUCH longer than it was supposed to be.  So we did the Legacy run this year.

We got all decked out in our glow-stick attire and waited for the race to start.  It was so much fun and we were all looking forward to it.

My sister and I stuck together for about a mile and a half, then I kept running.  I never stopped running, even at the drink stations.  I feel so much more accomplished if I don't walk.  As I was going, I felt like the race was feeling longer and thought maybe on the way back they had a different way to route us.  I got a pretty bad belly ache near the end too.  I just had surgery Monday so I haven't really eaten anything all week but scrambled eggs, mashed potatoes, and milk shakes.  Turns out, the course was OVER 2 miles longer than it was supposed to be!

I made it though, phew.  I took 1st in my division (Athena) and 6th in my age group.  It was pretty fun and my 10K time was 1:03 which was better than last year (that's my fastest average for the entire event).  Ky did awesome and kept a steady pace.  Nina finished even though she had one of the worst charley-horses I have ever seen for the last mile.  Sabriyyah was so awesome and even though she hadn't even prepared at all, she was able to keep about a 13 min/mi pace.  We all did awesome, woohoo!

Pool

Today we had a "breakthrough" at the pool.  Sophie usually is very careful about where she swims only staying in the shallow end where she can touch.  Today she let me put a life jacket on her.  It took her some time to warm up to the idea but before I knew it she was getting in by herself.  She loved to float on her back.  She did this for over an hour (getting in, swimming out, swimming back in, climbing the ladder, and getting back in).  It was a fun day at the pool!

Electronics...

This just sums up our household...

Gum Surgery

A long time ago, I had braces.  They had to pull a few permanent teeth to "make room" in my small mouth.  When they pulled those teeth, and my other teeth were moved into place, it damaged my gums.  They had receded quite a bit and I have been putting off the surgery to fix them.  I had a consult a while ago and they explained that they took the skin from the roof of my mouth and that it was very painful.  I said I'd rather have my gums recede and my teeth fall out!  Two years ago I learned they had a new way to do it using "regenerated" tissue.  I finally got the time, money, and courage to do the procedure (yesterday). Sabriyyah babysat and Ky was my designated driver.  I had to take a sedative and boy did it work!  I was feeling so tired.  I was glad I wasn't uncomfortable for the procedure though.  They rough-up my gums and then stitch in the new tissue, attaching the connective tissues and all.  It was short and sweet and I came home and went to bed and slept for about 6 hours.  My mouth was swollen and a it throbbed a little bit, but overall it was much better than I expected.

I had to work the next day and it wasn't fun.  I just took my meds and kept icing my cheek.

I can only have soft foods but I don't have much of a appetite anyway.  I can't brush or floss the area either.  I have to use this special mouthwash too that makes the area all icky looking.

Pool

We went to the pool today with my cousin's daughter, Sabriyyah.  She is staying with my mom so we have been hanging out lots lately before she starts school.  It was a great day at the pool!  We love that place...

Cousin Sleepover Week

The cousins are here for the week again visiting.  Monday we went to the pool.  They all had a lot of fun.  Our other friend's came too.

Sophie is about a year old than Emery but loves to play with her!  They were being so silly.

Sophie likes Lex and Eva.  Lex is especially a good helper with her.  Sophie was in a cuddly mood at the pool and kept giving Lex and Eva hugs and kisses!

That night we went to a movie in the park (Despicable Me).  It was so much fun!  We had snacks and lounged on blankies waiting for the show to start.

Sophie fell asleep and I had to carry her to the car all wrapped up in the blankets!

Tuesday we had a good day.  We went bowling, read stories, and had pedicures.

We went hiking and did a scavenger hunt.  I made a list and had it on top of egg cartons so on our hike we could find the items in the picture and put them in our container.

Eva lost a tooth at our house on Wednesday!  The Plain City tooth fairy brought her a surprise too.

Thursday Sophie slept in.  We went in to get her up for the July 4th parade, but she didn't want to get up so just the girls and I went.  We got LOTS of candy at the parade.  It was so fun.

After the parade we had a big breakfast then went to Plain City Park to check out some of the activities.

It was hot so we didn't stay long though.

Later we jumped on the trampoline with a sprinkler and the girls LOVED it.  Kale was such a good sport.

We found a snake.  Sophie is one brave girl.  Lex held it for a quick second and Eva pet it.  Sophie is a pro-snake holder though ;)

That night we went to the Fireworks.  They were a lot of fun.

We had such a fun week with the cousins.  We loved hanging out, playing, and reading.  We had so much fun and are so glad our cousins can come over.
